This study aims to produce apatite structures, such as hydroxyapatite (HA) and fl uorapatite (FA), from precursor calcium phosphates of biological origin, namely from sea urchin, with mechano-chemical stirring and hot-plating conversion method. The produced materials were heat treated at 800 °C for 4 hours. X-ray diff raction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies were conducted. Calcium phosphate phases were developed. The SEM images showed the formation of micro to nano-powders. The experimental results suggest that sea urchin, Brissus latecarinatus skeleton could be an alternative source for the production of various mono or biphasic calcium phosphates with simple and economic mechano-chemical (ultrasonic) conversion method.

Activation of sea urchin eggs by inositol phosphates is independent of external calcium.
We investigated the contribution of external calcium ions to inositol phosphate-induced exocytosis in sea urchin eggs. We show that: (a) inositol phosphates activate eggs of the sea urchin species Lytechinus pictus and Lytechinus variegatus independently of external calcium ions; (b) the magnitude and duration of the inositol phosphate induced calcium changes are independent of external calcium...

Strontium carbonate (SrCO3) is one of the most important strontium compounds that have been used in a variety of technological and industrial applications. In the present investigation, nano-structured strontium carbonate was synthesized by mechano-chemical reaction of celestite ore (SrSO4) collected from Dasht-e kavir, Iran and sodium carbonate during high energy mechanical milling. The milling...
متن کاملSphingosine releases Ca2+ from intracellular stores via the ryanodine receptor in sea urchin egg homogenates.
Various reports have demonstrated that the sphingolipids sphingosine and sphingosine-1-phosphate are able to induce Ca2+ release from intracellular stores in a similar way to second messengers. Here, we have used the sea urchin egg homogenate, a model system for the study of intracellular Ca2+ release mechanisms, to investigate the effect of these sphingolipids. While ceramide and sphingosine-1...
متن کاملDifferential regulation of nicotinic acid-adenine dinucleotide phosphate and cADP-ribose production by cAMP and cGMP.
The sea urchin egg has been used as a system to study calcium-release mechanisms induced by inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), cADP-ribose (cADPR), and more recently, nicotinic acid-adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP). In order that cADPR and NAADP may be established as endogenous messengers for calcium release, the existence of intracellular enzymes capable of metabolizing these molecules ...
متن کاملA single residue in a novel ADP-ribosyl cyclase controls production of the calcium-mobilizing messengers cyclic ADP-ribose and nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate.
Cyclic ADP-ribose and nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate are ubiquitous calcium-mobilizing messengers produced by the same family of multifunctional enzymes, the ADP-ribosyl cyclases. Not all ADP-ribosyl cyclases have been identified, and how production of different messengers is achieved is incompletely understood. Here, we report the cloning and characterization of a novel ADP-ribo...
